The title of the work, Today, Tomorrow,” is borrowed from a 1912 advertisement for Robert Langefels, a merchant and tailor, whose business was located in this building for several years in the early part of the 20th Century. Langefels, like many others who lived and worked at 401 – 405 Madison Avenue in Covington, Kentucky, was a first generation immigrant. Throughout American history and today, immigrant’s and their descendent’s hard work and determination have advanced our diverse cultural heritage and anchored our strong economy, paving the way for collective American dreams and ideals. Today, Tomorrow combines archival documents, images and ephemera, with animated maps and migrant routes to connect the stories of the people who lived and worked in this building with the greater story of what it means to be American.
