The Glass Balloons Series reflects on American suburban ideals while hinting at their fragility and consequences. The work is rooted in personal loss, shaped by my brother’s troubled life and traumatic death in an automobile accident on a suburban Chicago highway in June 2020, just seven days before the birth of my first and only child. Using specialized software, the animation traces the precise movement and position of the sun in Chicago on the date of his passing. Glass balloons, suspended in time relect the fragility of life and childhood innocence.
